Life is going well and everything is perfect for Thomas just the way planned it until his wife disappears with the kids. Everyone is left in disarray, the reason Rita asks for divorce is unusual and there seems to be no logical route to convince her to stay married to Thomas. Thomas is left empty handed and impoverished. The magnitude of this impoverishment is seen when Leonard returns to live with him.
Despite Thomas’ plea and effort to dissuade Rita, she is effectively moving on with her life. SOPHIE (Rita’s close friend) pulls herself away from Rita’s unrepentant decision. Annie is the last person to move away from Rita’s new lifestyle as she (Annie) refuses to accept Rita’s new partner – this happens on dinner table and leads to Annie’s death. When Thomas gets to know the reason behind his darling daughter’s death, which topples on an already huge life’s disappointment, the Chief Warrant Officer makes a quick decision to exit the planet.
